100 Days of code – 45% complete

For the past few days, I’ve been pretty annoyed with coding. I’ve found that I’m dreading sitting down and coding for an hour. This is even harder on weekends, when I can procrastinate more.

I think this is normal. This is partly due to where I am in my programming journey, and partly due to everything I have going on outside of coding. Programming for an extra hour every day is just more work, and this challenge is starting to feel like a chore. I’m also trying harder and harder challenges, and I’m getting frustrated after I’m not able to solve the challenge in 2-3 hours. This is probably because I’ve been focusing too much on trying to become a Python master. Gaining mastery of any subject is difficult, but it’s especially difficult to do it in 100 days.

I listed to an episode of Talk Python to Me discussing 100 Days of Code recently, where the host interviewed Anna-Lena Popkes about her experience with the challenge. She said that for about half the challenge, she created a magical universe in Python, inspired by the Harry Potter series. I think I need to do the same thing. I’m going to focus on having fun, rather than trying to solve someone else’s challenges. I played around with Halite and Pygame recently, and those were both pretty fun. I’ll keep playing with those, and looking for other ways to keep this challenge enjoyable.
